Moldova Gets Praised by EU for Progress in Accession Talks
(MENAFN) Moldovan President Maia Sandu on Tuesday expressed gratitude to the European Commission for acknowledging her country’s advancements in EU accession negotiations, coinciding with the bloc’s release of a report evaluating the progress of its enlargement partners.
Earlier, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos described 2025 as a “good year for our work with candidate countries” during her address at the European Parliament, highlighting the “significant” strides made by Montenegro, Albania, Moldova, and Ukraine on their EU journey so far this year.
Kos further noted on the US social media platform X that Moldova achieved the “biggest progress on its accession path,” emphasizing that the country substantially strengthened its collaboration with the EU “despite the continuous hybrid threats and attempts to destabilise the country and its EU course.”
Responding to Kos’ comments on X, Sandu said, “Thank you for recognising our progress, @EU_Commission. Moldova has shown that even in the hardest times, Moldova delivers — and that the European Union can count on us.”
The remarks by the Moldovan leader came as she began an official working visit to Brussels, during which she reported a “productive meeting” with European Council President Antonio Costa.
During her stay, Sandu is set to hold discussions with Kos, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, and other senior European officials.
She will also participate in a conference as part of her visit, according to a statement from the Moldovan presidency released on Monday.
